Public Lecture by Dr. Kishore Singh, Former United Nations Rapporteur on Right to Education

AALCO Secretariat organised a Special Lecture on the topic “Right to Development in Digital Age” by Dr. Kishore Singh, Former United Nations Rapporteur on Right to Education. The lecture was attended by Ambassadors and High Commissioners, Liaison Officers from the Member States of AALCO.

The event commenced with H.E. Dr. Kamalinne Pinitpuvadol, Secretary-General of AALCO presenting his Welcome Remarks and introducing the relevance of the topic in the current times.

Following the Secretary-General’s remarks, Dr. Singh took the floor to deliver his lecture wherein he emphasised upon the significance of the Right to Development as an alpha and omega of all Human Rights. He dwelled about the “Global Digital Compact”, that is proposed to be agreed at the United Nations Summit of the Future in September 2024. He drew attention to the possible deleterious effects of the use of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology. He further quoted famous authors as well as educators on the perspectives of the use of technology in the current day and age.

The lecture concluded with an interactive session with the audience.

Dr. Singh has long standing professional experience and expertise in the field of human rights and especially, the right to education, as a result of the work accomplished by him over the years at UNESCO (till 2009).

Subsequent to his retirement from UNESCO in 2009, Dr. Singh was appointed as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education until 2016. In that capacity, he has presented to the Human Rights Council and to United Nations General Assembly annual Reports on thematic areas of priority concern for the international community.
