Launch Ceremony of China-AALCO Exchange and Research Programme on International Law (CAERP)
The China-AALCO Exchange and Research Programme on International Law (CAERP) was launched on July 13, 2015 at Xiamen University, Fujian Province, People’s Republic of China. Dr. Xu Dong, Director General, Department of Treaty and Law, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China delivered the welcome speech on behalf of the Vice Foreign Minister of China, H.E. Mr. Liu Zhenmin. This was followed by brief speeches of Prof. Dr. Rahmat Mohamad, Secretary-General, AALCO; Mr. Stephen Mathias, Assistant Secretary-General for Legal Affairs, United Nations, Prof. Dr. Zhu Chongshi, President, Xiamen University; and Mr Li Hong, Deputy- Director-General, Foreign Affairs of Fujian Provincial People’s Government. Mr. Viraj Dayaratne, Deputy Solicitor General of Sri Lanka spoke on behalf of the participants of Xiamen Summer Programme. He thanked the people and the government of China for establishing the Programme.
Twenty two participants representing 15 Member States participated in the Xiamen Summer Programme on International Law held from 13 July to 31 July 2015. The establishment of CAERP was announced by Premier Li Keqiang at the recently concluded Annual Session of AALCO held in Beijing in April 2015. Xiamen Summer Course is the first initiative under this Programme. Prof. Dr. Rahmat Mohamad delivered the opening lecture of the Summer Course titled “The Contribution of Asia and Africa in the Progressive Development of International Law”. The lecturers included H.E. Judge Hisashi Owada (General Course on Public International Law), H.E. Judge Xue Hanqin (Procedural Justice and Jurisdiction of the ICJ), H.E. Judge James Crawford (State Responsibility), Prof. Ernst-Urlich Petersmann (Methodological Problems in International Economic Law and Adjudication), Prof. Photini Pazartzis (Arbitration in International Law: Continuity or Revival) and Prof. Chia-Jui Cheng (The Progressive Development of International Agricultural Law Through International Organizations).
