On 16 February 2026, a delegation of 40 students and 7 faculty members from the Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) visited the AALCO Secretariat as part of an Interactive Academic Visit organized under the AALCO@70 Platinum Jubilee programme. This initiative was also held in line with the Secretary-General’s Strategic Vision for 2026-2029, particularly the priority of engaging future generations in international law.
The visit aimed to introduce participants to AALCO’s mandate and institutional framework, highlight its contributions to the progressive development and codification of international law, provide insights into contemporary legal issues relevant to Asian and African States, and strengthen academic engagement with multilateral diplomacy and international legal institutions.
H.E. Dr. Kamalinne Pinitpuvadol, the Secretary-General of AALCO delivered a comprehensive presentation on the Organization’s work, priorities, and its evolving role in the contemporary international legal order. Dr. Shikhar Ranjan, Director of AALCO, also spoke about the genesis of AALCO and answered queries from the guests. The presentation provided participants with insights into AALCO’s substantive areas of engagement and its contributions to international legal processes.
The session was followed by an engaging and interactive discussion between the Secretary-General and the students and faculty members. The exchange reflected a keen interest among participants in emerging issues of international law, as well as in the functioning of international organizations.
Dr. Rashmi Salpekar, Professor and Dean, Vivekananda School of Law and Legal Studies, delivered remarks appreciating the initiative of AALCO in fostering academic engagement and providing students with exposure to the practical dimensions of international law.
The event was attended by Deputy Secretaries-General Mr. Yong Zhu, Mr Ali Hasankhani and Ms. Sakura Ozaki and members of the AALCO Secretariat as well.
The Interactive Academic Visit was ably moderated by Ms. Nuzhat Nasreen Islam, Legal Officer, AALCO, who also gave the introductory remarks and presented the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the moderator, who expressed appreciation to the Secretary-General, the visiting institution, and all participants for their valuable contributions to the success of the event.
The visit also included an institutional interaction, an office tour of the AALCO Secretariat, a group photograph and high tea. The Interactive Academic Visit was successfully conducted as part of AALCO’s continued commitment to outreach, capacity-building, and strengthening engagement with academic institutions and young legal professionals.
