Lecture Delivered by Mr. FENG Qinghu, Deputy Secretary-General of AALCO at University of Delhi’s Law Centre-II on “The Role of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) in the Development of International Law”
New Delhi: On 16 March 2016, Mr. FENG Qinghu, Deputy Secretary-General of AALCO, delivered a presentation to law students and faculty at the University of Delhi’s Law Centre-II in an event chaired by Assistant Professor Anupam Jha. The topic of the presentation was “The Role of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) in the Development of International Law”.
Over the course of his lecture, Mr. Feng discussed the historical role of intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) in the development and codification of international law as well as the impact that IGOs have had in these processes, particularly relating to treaty law and customary international law. Mr. Feng then went on to discuss the role played by AALCO over the course of its history in the progressive development of international law, particularly in the Asian and African regions including an overview of its past achievements and current and future work. A presentation was also given by Mr. Parthan Vishvanathan, Legal Officer, on the demands of working with AALCO, the role of Legal Officers in the Organization, and on internship opportunities for law students.
The presentations were followed by an interactive “question and answer” session where the presenters answered questions from students about several current issues in international law concerning AALCO and its Member States.
