The 2017 M.C. Bassiouni Justice Award
The M.C. Bassiouni Justice Award, which is a recognition given to any outstanding contribution made in the fields of adjudication, prosecution, investigation, documentation, defense, analysis, diplomacy, or study of core international crimes such as war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, was presented to Ambassador Narinder Singh for the year 2017 – for being an “outstanding South Asian who has contributed to the rule of international law generally or the field of international criminal law and justice specifically”. It was recognized that he made distinctive contributions to the field of international law in his life time.
As a part of his illustrious career, Mr. Singh has been a member of the International Law Commission for a decade (from 2007 to present). He has also had the distinction of being elected as President of two Annual Sessions of AALCO held in New Delhi (Headquarters) in 2008 and 2006. He is also a Member of the Eminent Persons Group (EPG) of AALCO.
After retiring as the Additional Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, in the year 2012, Mr. Singh served as the Secretary General of the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL) till 2015.
